The Silent "Inter" of the National Retail Federation Conference
This IDC Retail Insights Perspective provides European insight regarding the National Retail Federation (NRF) conference held in New York during January 2016.Over the past three years, the NRF conference has continued to attract an even larger international contingent of retailers from Europe and other regions. IDC Retail Insights attended the event to meet with vendors and retailers, and this year, it was evident that the continued growth in the attendance of European retailers was encouraging a higher presence of Europe-based IT vendors, and U.S.-based vendors brought more of their international colleagues to the conference. In addition, all the major technology providers that IDC met with had a stronger focus on the European retail market, and they discussed their plans on engaging with a region where per-country cultural maturity, preferences, and differences play a significant role on how retailers operate. The event is ideally placed for retailers in both the U.S. and Europe as the peak Christmas retail period is subsiding, which gives most retailers the opportunity to explore new trends in retail technology as their 2016 strategies gain momentum.
