Slovenia Retail Report Q3 2015

BMI View: The Slovenian economy continues to recover and show optimistic signs about the future. Asexports recover and the overall economic activity intensifies, the retail sector will witness gains inhousehold spending this year and beyond. Despite the uncertainty about the Slovenia's privatizationprogramme, we anticipate a slow but stable growth to describe the country's retail sector until 2019.

We forecast that the Slovenian nominal GDP will grow by 2.5% in 2015 as exports, investment and privateconsumption continue to rebound. After bailing out its banking system almost two years ago, the country oftwo million has shown a sustained and determined economic recovery. Even though the political systemremains subject to uncertainty and continuous struggle of political powers, the widespread privatizationprogram is the main concern for Slovenians and some foreign investors. The government beganimplementing the program in 2013 as part of the more general economic recovery plan negotiated with theEuropean Union. Around fifteen national companies are expected to be privatized, including TelekomSlovenia, a national telecommunications company with almost EUR0.9bn market capitalization, yet to besold in 2015. Political corruption and possible layoffs by the privatized companies may bring fewer benefitsthan expected and delay faster growth of the economy and the retail sector.
