BMI View: We envisage strong growth in Iranian device spending over the medium term as economicconditions improve, enabling vendors to tap into relatively low device penetration rates in several majorproduct categories, but especially smartphones. There is also scope for a greater formalisation of retail andreduced propensity for affluent Iranians to shop abroad with the introduction of VAT in the GCC from2018, but this is balanced against downside security and political risks in the region that could derail thenormalisation of relations and economic recovery.
