U.S. Wearable Computing Device Forecast, 2016–2020: CY 4Q16

This IDC study presents an updated five-year forecast for the U.S. wearables market."The U.S. wearables market is characterized by warmer reception toward basic wearables and lukewarm demand for smart wearables," says Ramon Llamas, research manager for IDC's Wearables team. "End users can see the value proposition for basic wearables — specifically fitness trackers — and that feeds into demand. Conversely, smart wearables are finding a home among the technology cognoscenti and brand loyalists and have yet to move into the mass market. Still, the market is moving forward and with it will come new use cases and experiences to entice more users."
