This study investigates and examines case studies based on visiting interviews with various vendors and the findings of the April 2015 Japan SMB User Study concerning usage trends and needs by major product type (hardware and packaged software) and for the 3rd Platform (cloud, mobility, and Big Data and analytics).As the environment that Japan SMBs face remains demanding, the expectations that such users have for IT are shifting from simply making work more efficient and the like to ensuring performance improvement, production innovation, and other results directly linked with management strategy. How to propose solutions that meet these expectations while keeping costs low is now a crucial problem not just for vendors but also for regional SIs and distributors. Another significant issue within Japan is the stagnation of the number of new companies being founded. IDC believes that over the medium and long terms, this will affect the Japan SMB IT market.
