Japan Small and Medium-Sized Business Markets Business Case Study of IT Usage by Advanced Companies 2016
This IDC study focuses on and analyzes progressive companies that are actively using IT among small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). It uses data from the IT Spending Trend Survey carried out in September 2016 to compare the expectations and issues concerning IT use in SMBs that have undertaken strategic IT use policies with those that have yet to consider doing so, while analyzing the state of deployment and consideration of solutions that IDC expects to see increased future use, including the cloud, Big Data, and the IoT. Finally, the study examines the expansion policies of SMBs in terms of IT use.Among SMBs in Japan, companies that are undertaking strategic IT use are making progress in deploying 3rd Platform technologies such as the cloud, while proactively employing their IT systems. At the same time, companies that are not yet considering strategic IT use policies are often keeping their IT systems down to a bare minimum. In order to expand their businesses in the Japan SMB market, vendors must assist in IT deployment for those companies that are using IT strategically, while simultaneously developing proactive strategies for promoting IT use to companies that have yet to consider strategic IT use policies. Therefore, Hitoshi Ichimura, IDC Japan's IT Spending Group research manager, says, "vendors need to offer proposals to both types of user companies such that they are intensifying their support in terms of IT human resources and know-how to SMBs that are undertaking strategic IT use, and emphasizing solutions that meet the needs of internal corporate systems and that solve the problem of labor shortages to SMBs that have yet to consider strategic IT use policies."This IDC study is summarized to reduce the gap in time since the original version was published. All of the following sections are, however, fully translated:IDC Opinion Methodology Definition Past Data Revision Executive Summary Essential Guidance Synopsis
