Japan Small and Medium-Sized Business Markets Major Vendor Analysis Update 2016
This IDC study investigates and analyzes major vendor trends in the Japan small and medium-sized business (SMB) IT market. It provides observations on orientations in fields of focus and strategies within the Japan SMB IT market based on meetings held with vendors, as well as findings from the March 2016 Japan SMB user survey concerning usage trends for major products (servers, PCs, packaged software, and their needs). In the Japan SMB IT market, the commoditization of products (especially hardware) is gaining speed. Not only will business trend toward contraction but it will also become more difficult for vendors to set themselves apart from competitors using only the conventional renovation of existing systems and implementation and operations on a product unit basis. In order to expand business going forward, vendors will need to broaden and enhance their approach to SMBs, as well as to larger enterprises, and differentiate themselves from their competitors by proactively providing comprehensive support and other services. However, there are many situations that are too difficult for a single vendor to handle on its own. IDC Japan's IT Spending Research Manager Hitoshi Ichimura therefore says that "vendors should aim to build up an ecosystem that includes not only sales partners, but also companies in other business categories as well."
