China: Processed Potatoes Market and the Impact of COVID-19 on It in the Medium Term
The processed potatoes market in China was equal to 1.65 billion USD (calculated in retail prices) in 2015. Until 2025, the processed potatoes market in China is forecast to reach 3.53 billion USD (in retail prices), thus increasing at a CAGR of 6.24% per annum for the period 2020-2024. Although potato crisps remain one of the most popular indulgence categories among people, it has been hugely impacted by the ongoing health awareness trend worldwide. With the increasing number of innovative and healthier launches in the entire savory snack category, it has become difficult for potato-based products to compete. In fact, most people have been turning away from potato crisps towards more healthy alternatives such as rice- and lentil-based snacks, popcorn and others. In order to remain relevant, market players have been exploring opportunities in flavor, functionality, and healthy innovations. In fact, during the past few years, there have been more oven-baked crisp in the shelves of the supermarkets.
