National Transmission and Despatch Co. Ltd (NTDC) is undertaking the construction of a transmission line in Punjab, Pakistan.
The project involves the construction of a 275km, 500kV double circuit transmission line from Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Plant to Gujranwala. It will be developed in two phases. The first phase includes the construction of 145km transmission line from Neelum-Jhelum to Domeli near Rawat and the second phase includes the 130km transmission line from Domeli to Gujranwala.
The project includes the construction of a substation, access roads, tower footings base and related infrastructure and the installation of transformers, power control units and safety systems.
On August 15, 2014, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) approved in-principle GOP sovereign guarantee against US$167 million funding from local banks for the project.
On November 14, 2014, a groundbreaking ceremony was held and construction works commenced on the first phase.
In June 2017, 90% of the construction works are completed.
Construction works are underway on the first phase and the second phase of the work will commence after the completion of the first phase. Construction work on the first phase is expected to be completed by the end of third quarter of 2017.
