Ministry of Electricity and Energy (MoEE) plans to construct a 1,390MW LNG fired power plant in Ayeyarwady, Myanmar.
The project involves the construction of a 1,390MW (225MWx4 and 250MWx2) power plant. It includes the construction of an LNG receiving terminal, a floating storage regasification unit (FSRU), a powerhouse, a substation and storage tanks, the laying of transmission lines and pipe lines, and the installation of generators, transformers, safety and security systems. The project will be implemented in phases.
In September 2016, MoEE invited the expressions of interest (EoI) for the project development. A tender was expected in 2017. However, MoEE opted to negotiate directly with some of the companies that responded to the EoI call.
MoEE appointed Zhefu Holding Group Co. Ltd (ZHG) and Supreme Group (SG) as project developers and issued a notice to proceed (NoP) on January 30, 2018. With the NoP, ZHG and SG received permission to proceed with preliminary tasks on the project such as business plans, initial surveys, initial designs and engineering works.
Construction work on the first phase is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2019 and will take 36 months to complete; the entire project is expected to take 42 months to complete.
The project involves the construction of a 1,390MW Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) power plant in Mee Laung Gyaing, Ayeyarwady, Myanmar.
The US$2,507 million project includes the following:
1. Construction of an LNG receiving terminal
2. Construction of a floating storage regasification unit
