CEZ, a. s (CEZ) a company of CEZ Group is planning to undertake the construction of Unit 5 nuclear reactor in Dukovany, Trebic District in the Vysocina Region of the Czech Republic.
The project involves the construction of a 1200MW nuclear reactor. It also includes the construction of the powerhouse and a substation, water treatment systems, the installation of the pressure vessel, reactors, generators and transformers, turbines, water cooling systems and safety equipment.
In 2013, CEZ invited tenders for appointment of contractors of the project and in April 2014, CEZ informed bidders that it had canceled the procurement process in accordance with the public procurement law and the Government of Czech Republic recommended CEZ to create a subsidiary company to prepare construction plans and explore options for financing.

In June 2015, the cabinet board of Czech Republic approved a Ministry of Trade and Industry long-term plan for the project development.
In July 2016, CEZ requested for the Environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the project.
In October 2016, Rusatom Overseas submitted an offer to build a VVER-1200 reactor to the government and CEZ. Additionally, five other companies namely EDF/Areva, Atmea, China General Nuclear, Korea HNP and Westinghouse have also submitted offers. However, International Energy Agency (IEA) has to decide the mechanisms for financing the construction.
In early 2017, CEZ held talks with six companies and consortia comprising Westinghouse, Rusatom Overseas, EDF, Areva-Mitsubishi Heavy Industries joint venture Atmea; China General Nuclear Power Corp; and Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power, who expressed interest in the project development.
Construction of the project is expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2020 and scheduled for completion in 2035.
Planning activities are underway and the financing for the project is yet to be decided.
The project involves the construction of 1,200MW nuclear reactor in Dukovany village, Trebic District in the Vysocina Region of the Czech Republic.
