Perspective: Ambulatory Phenom eClinicalWorks Eyes the Acute Care Space

This IDC Health Insights Perspective discusses recent activities in the acute care market by Westborough, Massachusetts-based eClinicalWorks. The company's current clients include U.S. ambulatory practices of all sizes as well as 80 acute care hospitals in the Asia/Pacific region. eClinicalWorks entered the ambulatory EHR market in 1999 with a simplified, streamlined EHR and practice management (PM) system that offered modern architecture, hosting, and services at highly competitive and transparent pricing and was initially targeted at small and solo U.S. practices with fewer than 10 providers. As eClinicalWorks moved into the meaningful use era, the company improved its functionality to allow it to serve larger, more complex ambulatory practices while retaining competitive pricing. Today, the company's ambulatory functionality serves small practices as well as many large organizations.
