Beyond Technology and into the Business: Lessons Learned from Infosec 2018
This IDC Perspective focuses on the emergent themes and lessons learned from the 2018 iteration of London's Infosecurity exhibition and conference (aka Infosec), held from the June 5-7. IDC's team of analysts left Infosec with the following takeaways as to how security vendors are addressing the European market: Endpoint, despite being the largest and longest-established segment, remains a source of growth, with the emergence of IoT and the IT/OT crossover being key drivers at present.SecDevOps is emerging as a concept and helping to position security as a business enabler rather than being the "department of no."Risk and operational efficiency are the key business themes in which security can be a driver.GDPR was under-represented compared with IDC's pre-show expectations, even though enforcement began just days before the event, and IDC finds that most organizations are well short of "automated compliance.""Infosec is a good barometer for the state of the European market, and there were some clear messages for buyers and vendors to bear in mind this year. There is a clear need to focus on business outcomes, with brand reputation, digital trust, SecDevOps, and operational efficiencies being the key themes," said Dominic Trott, associate research director, IDC European Security.
