findings of IDC's Asia/Pacific (Excluding Japan) Unified Communications and Enterprise x.0 2008 Survey, 2008, in which 762 enterprises in 11 countries in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) of APEJ were interviewed. This survey sought to understand unified communications (UC) and enterprise 2.0 technology adoption trends among enterprises in APEJ. Using the cluster analysis statistical method, the study uncovered four distinct clusters of enterprises in the region based on their adoption and affinity for new technologies and work styles. These clusters are tech innovators, tech mimics, tech skeptics, and tech laggards. The study also presents IDC's unique perspective on how these clusters of enterprises are embracing UC in the region. Furthermore, the study shows UC-related trends by country and company size where relevant insights come up. "Enterprises that have been bitten by the innovations bug are more likely to embrace UC in the region. Tech innovators are the early adopters of UC, while tech mimics, which are inherently copycat enterprises, will dominate the next wave of UC adoption. IDC believes that UC adoption will become increasingly complex in terms of solutions and engagement models," says Shalini Verma, research manager, Communications, IDC Asia/Pacific.
