Synopsis

Abstract

This IDC study examines the use of postage and shipping services by small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in general as well as those that sell online. The use of different carriers is discussed as well as mail and shipping spending for regular mail, ground transportation, and overnight delivery.

"The 8.1 million small businesses in the United States account for a sizable percentage of the money spent sending letters and parcels every year," says Merle Sandler, senior research analyst in the SMB program at IDC. "Order fulfillment is still conducted through traditional shipping resources even as promotion is moving online to email and home-page implementation."
