The Ice Manufacturing industry consists of companies that manufacture large blocks and small cubes of ice for industrial and commercial use. Most ice manufacturers are small and most manufacturers do not generate significant profit. This trend causes some ice manufacturers to operate as single-location operations that function as a unit within the corporate portfolios of major bottled water and soft drink manufacturers. The process of manufacturing ice is simple; production facilities house ice-making equipment that operates in cold temperatures. Large copper ice cube trays are refrigerated and pumped with cold water. As water circulates through the tray into individual cells, ice is gently formed in a way that prevents mineral impurities and oxygen bubbles from forming within the cubes. The cubes are then extracted, rinsed, packaged into plastic bags and placed on wooden pallets to be distributed to customers.

Ice manufacturers primarily manufacture ice. Companies in the industry freeze water into varying forms of block and cubed ice to be sold in bags. This industry does not include the production of dry ice.
