Facial Cosmetic Surgery and Rejuvenation Markets

New technologies and alternatives to traditional cosmetic surgery have opened up a huge new market for anti-aging products. Cosmetic facial rejuvenation is no longer the purview of plastic surgeons, but represents a booming cash business for a large number of dermatologist and other practitioners. Botox, dermal fillers, resurfacing modalities, lasers, and other alternatives are creating a dynamic and growing marketplace and finding millions of eager patients.

This 400-page report examines the competing technologies, procedures, and options available to physicians, non-physician practitioners, and patients, providing specific data and a strategic outlook for manufacturers looking to penetrate new or existing markets, increase exposure, and optimize market share.

The report covers two broad market segments: facial rejuvenation (the major focus of research and market analysis) and surgical restoration, involving an assessment of the top five surgeries which dominate cosmetic aesthetic surgery. Facial rejuvenation is comprised of the following sectors:

  • Non-ablative/non-surgical injectables (botulinum toxin injections and dermal fillers);
  • Non-ablative wrinkle treatment technologies (lasers, radio frequency devices [RFDs], and other light energy sources);
  • Ablative/resurfacing procedures and modalities (lasers, dermabrasion/microdermabrasion, and chemical peels);
  • Hair Removal (lasers and other modalities); and
  • Photodynamic therapy (PDT)

While the report focuses on high-volume interventional procedures used to treat facial imperfections (excluding skin cancers) and other skin conditions contributing to signs of aging, it also addresses technologies like PDT to diagnose, identify and remove pre-cancerous lesions The report also provides procedure data and an impact assessment of the top five cosmetic surgical procedures, including:

  • Breast augmentation/reduction
  • Liposuction
  • Rhytidectomy (face lift)
  • Bleparoplasty (eyelid lift)
  • Rhinoplasty (nose)

Total market size and forecast is given for the years 2002 through 2006 with five year forecasts for key sectors for the two primary categories: products/systems and treatment procedures. Sales are given in constant US dollars with current rates of exchange for foreign players; unit sales also include systems. The report excludes traditional instruments and materials used in conventional medical/surgical practices and treatment facilities. While the report focuses on the US market, worldwide figures are also provided.

Company profiles, abstracts and briefs are presented for leading players together with a directory of manufactures making important technological and marketing contributions. The report also reviews the share of sales each sector and forecast positions covering the 2002-2006 period of the analysis. The intense competitive rivalry is explored within each sector and between sectors, showing significant changes in market positions and demand for services.
