AbstractThis IDC study looks at end-user organizations' attitude toward desktop services. The study is part of a series based on IDC's annual European Enterprise Services Survey 2012 that looks at different aspects of European companies' investment plans for external services, their buying behaviors, and satisfaction with IT services and their vendors. "In terms of investment priorities, security remains number 1, with the desktop environment relegated to the second tier in terms of importance on par with many other categories," said Lionel Lamy, research director, IDC Desktop and Workplace Life-Cycle Services. "However, the survey confirmed significant aspects for ICT buyers — virtualization is happening now and cloud is climbing in importance. Desktop bundling within broader infrastructure services contracts — currently on par with network or datacenter services bundling — will decrease over the next five years, making desktop a more specialized services area. We believe this shift is due to the convergence of desktop with mobility, cloud, BYOD, and consumerization. The market is more dynamic and reenergized by these disrupting trends. Vendors and ICT buyers have a lot to ponder and decide when it comes to desktop services over the next 12 to 18 months."
