AbstractThis report presents the demographics of who buys at restaurants and carry-outs. Based on unpublished data collected by the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Consumer Expenditure Survey, the report examines how much Americans spend in restaurants and carry-outs by the demographics that count-age, income, high-income households, household type, region of residence, race and Hispanic origin, and education. To round out the spending picture, it also presents "who-are-the-best-customers" analyses of the data, showing the demographics of spending at a glance. The categories examined in this report are spending on breakfast and brunch at fast-food and full-service restaurants and carry-outs, lunch at fast-food and full-service restaurants and carry-outs and employer or school cafeterias, dinner at fast-food and full-service restaurants and carry-outs; snacks at fast-food and full-service restaurants and carry-outs and vending machines or mobile vendors, with a final section on restaurant and take-out food on trips.
New to this edition are intriguing results of how the nation's spending habits have changed since the beginning of the Great Recession.
