Abstract

This study offers an analysis of the EMEA Unix server market in 2008-2013. Historical data has been used when possible, up until the second quarter of 2009. Forecast data has been used to analyze the Unix market from the third quarter of 2009 until 2013.

"The RISC market share in EMEA has declined by five percentage points year on year and this trend is set to continue," said Beatriz Valle, IDC analyst with the EMEA Enterprise Server team. "There are significant advantages offered by the next generation of x86 processors in terms of performance, scalability, and RAS features, and as a consequence, it is now becoming commonplace to transfer a lot of workloads that were in the past undertaken exclusively by Unix environments to industry standard platforms."
