Included in this study are results pertaining to Blu-ray usage in the United States and gaiting factors to Blu-ray adoption. The survey was conducted entirely online in April 2008. "When compared with standard definition DVD, Blu-ray has a limited available market of HDTV households and has had a hard time picking up the slack of a softening DVD market due to high price points," says Elizabeth Curtis, associate research analyst at IDC's Consumer Markets program. "According to IDC survey data, there must be extreme price cuts on Blu-ray players if Blu-ray vendors hope to convince HDTV owners to upgrade their current DVD player, especially in a soft economy."
