The laser BPH device market includes both disposable laser fibers and laser BPH capital equipment. This market is expected to exhibit moderate growth due to the increased utilization of laser technology. Often, some of the same laser BPH capital equipment and disposables are used for intracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ISWL) procedures to treat stones. Prices in this market were heavily dependent on the types of contracts that were negotiated with manufacturers. For example, hospitals that purchased both the fibers and BPH capital equipment together were allowed to negotiate a more significant discount. Ultimately, direct purchase resulted in the lowest ASP for fibers over the long run, while rental prices were the highest. Rental prices involve the end-user subsidizing the cost of the capital equipment by paying more per fiber.

Laser BPH treatment is a broad category of laser techniques that have been developed to treat benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). Laser procedure options include photo-selective vaporization (PVP), holmium laser ablation (HoLAP), holmium laser resection (HoLRP), holmium laser enucleation (HoLEP), interstitial laser coagulation (ILC) and visual laser ablation (VLAP).
