Yard Energy Group B.V. (YED), RWE Innogy GmBH (RWE) and Blaaswind B.V. (Blaaswind) are planning to develop a wind farm in Groningen, the Netherlands.
The project involves the construction of a 120MW wind farm. It includes the construction of a substation, access roads, a control building and wind tower foundations, the installation of 34 turbines, transformers, wind towers and generators, and the laying of transmission lines.
The project includes 27 windmills above Meeden and eight windmills east of Veendam.
PLY Energy has provided development support during initial phases and advised in the turbine micro siting and wind resource assessment. It has also prepared various layout with the goal of optimizing the site given site restrictions.
On June 3, 2012, the draft plans and environmental assessment were available for public inspection and comments.
In April 2014, the House of Representatives and the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MoEA) decided to extend the area of the project. As a result of this expansion, in addition to the municipalities of Veendam and Menterwolde, even a small part of the territory of the municipality of Oldambt was also involved in the Environmental Assessment.
The revised plans and environmental assessment were available for public inspection and comments from May 22, 2015, to July 2, 2015.
On October 8, 2015, the MoEA and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment (MoIE) made a provisional decision on the wind farm and a notification of this decision was placed in the Government Gazette on October 15, 2015.
On October 8, 2015, the preferred location of the project was announced by the MoEA and MoIE. The project location falls under the municipalities of Veendam, Menterwolde, and Oldambt.
An environmental impact study (EIS) is yet to be undertaken on the revised locations and the EIS and draft decisions would be made available for public inspection and comments.
On November 2016, EIS has been done and discussions are underway.
Environmental permit and other necessary permits are awaited.
