Summary

Taishan Nuclear Power Joint Venture Company Ltd (TNPJVCL), a consortium of Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Corporation (CGNPC) and the Electricite de France (EDF) is undertaking the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant Project in Chixi Town, Taishan, Guangdong, China.

The project involves the construction of a nuclear power plant having total power generation capacity of 7,000MW. The project will be implemented in two phases, with two units of 1,750MW in each phase.

On November 26, 2007, AREVA in consortium with two subsidiaries of CGNPC, China Nuclear Power Engineering Company (CNPEC) and China Nuclear Power Design Company (CNPDC) was awarded the supply contract for Taishan Unit I and II. The scope of supply contract includes design and procurement of two EPR units.

In February 2008, ALSTOM, now GE Power along with its partner Dongfang Electric Company won the contract for the supply of two 1,750 MW Arabelle turbine-generator packages for the Taishan nuclear plant.

China Development Bank and Bank of China will provide a total of US$15,056 million loan to Taishan Nuclear power plant according to the agreement signed in the second quarter of 2008.

In July 2008, Alstom, now GE Power as part of a consortium along with two subsidiaries of CGNPC, China Nuclear Power Engineering Co., Ltd. (CNPEC), and China Nuclear Power Design Co., Ltd (CNPDC) was awarded the design, engineering, and procurement contract for Taishan Unit 1&2.

On Alstom’s side, the project will be led by Alstom Turbomachines group (TMG) business, including its local engineering office Alstom Wuhan Engineering and Technology Co (AWEC). Alstom, now GE Power will supply in-house designed components, as well as the basic engineering of the complete turbine island and pumping station, while AWEC will support the on-shore portion of the design and procurement.

The major components for Unit I are imported: the pressure vessel from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) in Japan and the steam generators from Areva Chalon/St. Marcel in France.

The major components for Unit II are all built in China: the pressure vessel by Dongfang Electric (DEC), the steam generators by DEC (two) and Shanghai Electric (two).

China Nuclear Engineering and Construction Corporation (CNECC) has been appointed as the construction contractor for the first phase of the project.

Construction commenced on Unit I in the second quarter of 2009 and Unit II in the second quarter of 2010.

Severn Trent Services (STS) has been awarded a contract to provide its Capital Controlschlorine dioxide generator to the first phase of the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant s water purification project.

Construction has been completed on the first unit of phase I. Installation of equipment is underway on the second unit.
