Symbion Power (Symbion) is undertaking the construction of a combined cycle thermal power plant at Domunli in Ghana.
The project involves the construction of a 450MW combined cycle thermal power plant. It includes the construction of a powerhouse, substation and fuel tanks, the installation of turbines, generators, transformers and fuel storage tanks, and the laying of transmission lines and gas pipelines.
The project will be developed in Public-private partnership (PPP) model and will be structured as a BOT concession awarded to an IPP.
On July 22, 2013, Symbion applied for the electricity supply license for the project and received it on August 5, 2013. The project is being funded by the Government of Ghana.
In September 2013, Symbion and the Government of Ghana signed a letter of intent for the development of the project.
Saah and Co. has been appointed as legal advisor for the project.
As of June 2015, site preparatory work is on-going. The procurement process for a consultant to do a detailed technical specification as well an Environmental and Social Impact Analysis (ESIA) has also commenced.
As of February 2016, the Government is seeking funds to develop the project or a possible Joint-Venture Partnership.
