The Ministry of Transport and Aviation, Sierra Leone (MoTA) is undertaking the construction of an international airport in Mamamah, Sierra Leone.

The project involves the construction of an international airport and will be developed in phases. The first phase will cost is US$200 million.

The project includes the construction of a terminal, runways, an air traffic control tower, taxiways, auxiliary facilities, retail units and parking facilities, and the installation of signaling and lighting systems and security systems.

In December 2012, MoTA signed a contract of US$190 million for the construction of the international airport with the China Railway International Group.

In September 2013, secured a US$315 million loan from the Chinese government.

Site preparatory works are underway which also involves the construction of works yard and relocating the existing airport inland from Freetown, to a location that is more accessible to the surrounding areas. The construction equipment is expected to arrive on the site in September 2017 and construction works are scheduled to be completed by late 2020.
