Ministry of Electricity & Energy, Egypt (MoEE) plans to undertake a hydroelectric power plant in Egypt.
The project involves the construction of a 2,100MW pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant. It includes the construction of a reservoir, penstocks, spillways, a powerhouse, access roads, a substation and related infrastructure, the installation of turbines and generators, and the laying of transmission lines.
On March 15, 2015, Sinohydro entered into a framework agreement with MoEE to develop the project. However, the final contract is yet to be signed.
In March 2017, an alliance between Artelia and ÅF Consult was appointed as lead consultants to evaluate the technical and financial feasibility studies of the project and cooperate with the MOEE in its negotiations with the Sinohydro during the implementation period of the project.
The government of Egypt approved the project and allocated the required land to construct the power plant as well as licensing the activity. MoEE also obtained the security and environmental approvals.
Artelia and ÅF Consult will also negotiate over the kilowatt price, the loan, the grace period, the annual installment, and the interest rate on the project.
