MahaTamil Collieries Ltd (MTCL), a joint venture company of Tamil Nadu State Electricity Board (TNEB) and Maharashtra State Mining Corporation (MSMC), is planning to undertake the construction of a power plant in Chhattishgarh, India.
The project involves the construction of a 2,000MW power plant. It will include the construction of a coal washing unit, raw water storage tanks, a switchyard for power evacuation, a powerhouse and related facilities, the installation of turbines and generators, and the laying of transmission lines and water transmission pipeline.
The project would be funded by a joint venture of Govt of Maharashtra and Govt of Tamil Nadu.
In August 2011, Lanco Infratech Ltd (LIL) was appointed as mine developer and operator for the project.
LIL has formed a separate company namely “MahaTamil Mining and Thermal Energy Ltd” for the mining and development of Gare Pelma Sector II Coal Block and for erecting the associated power plant.

The project involves the construction of a 2,000MW power plant at Gare Pelma II in Raigarh, Chhattishgarh, India.
The US$2,000 million project includes the following:
1. Construction of a powerhouse

4. Installation of generators
5. Installation of turbines
