The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is planning to undertake the Solid Waste Management Facility project in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.
The project involves the construction of a waste management facility to process 2,000 tonnes per day (TPD) of municipal solid waste and to handle solid waste up to 2,500TPD on 50ha of land.
It includes the construction of landfills, hazardous material processing center and solid waste dumping sites.
The project is planned to be developed through public-private partnership (PPP) model on design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis.
In January 2011, MMRDA invited expression of interest (EoI) for the DBFOT contractor of the project. MMRDA received responses from 15 international and 22 national companies.
In May 2013, DBFOT contract was awarded to Ramky Enviro Engineers Ltd in association with Chongqing Sanfeng Environmental Industry Group.
In January 2015, the contract was cancelled due to issues about past projects and the history of the bidder.
In May 2017, BMC received possession over 38.87ha of land which belongs to the state government.
BMC is in the process of acquiring the remaining 12.20ha of land.
