Fomento Económico Mexicano (Femsa), a Coca Cola owned company along with Macquarie Capital, Mitsubishi and Mexico Macquarie Infruastructure Fund (MMIF) is jointly planning to construct a 396MW capacity wind power farm in Istmo de Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, Mexico.
The project involves the construction of a power plant with a capacity of 396MW which includes construction of access roads, a power house, a substation and related infrastructure. The project also has the installation of generators and transformers, and the laying of transmission lines. The project will use 132 turbines of Vestas with the capacity of 3MW each.
A special purpose vehicle, named Consorcio Mareña, was formed to build, operate and manage this project by FEMSA, Heineken, Mitsubishi, Macquarie, PGGM and Vestas.
Earlier the location was decided as La barra de Santa Teresa of the municipality San Dionisio del Mar, but due to the opposition from local communities and administrative reasons the project is going to be shifted near the municipalities of El Espinal and Juchitán. The exact location has not yet decided.
Energia Eolica del Sur is the management contractor.
Project was getting delayed due to opposition from the local communities but on August 1, 2015 it received the approval from them.
