Aircraft flight control systems (FCS) - Global Market Outlook (2017-2026)
According to Stratistics MRC, the Global Aircraft flight control systems (FCS) Market is accounted for $12.89 billion in 2017 and expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.1% to reach $25.99 billion by 2026. Factors elevating the market growth are increasing air passenger traffic, growth of commercial aviation industry in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, Rising demand for military Uavs, increase in aircraft orders are fuelling market growth. However, Electromechanical actuators (EMAs) issues, stringent regulatory norms, high cost associated with the introduction of new technology, and existing backlogs in aircraft deliveries are restricting market growth. In addition, increase in demand for lightweight flight control system, introduction of fly-by-wire aircraft, shift toward next-generation FCS and increased adaptation of advanced actuator are few trends observed by market.
By technology, Fly-by-wire (FBW) is a system that replaces the conventional manual flight controls of an aircraft with an electronic interface. The movements of flight controls are converted to electronic signals transmitted by wires and flight control computers determine how to move the actuators at each control surface to provide the ordered response. The fly-by-wire system also allows automatic signals sent by the aircraft’s computers to perform functions without the pilot’s input, as in systems that automatically help stabilize the aircraft. FBW system controls the aircraft ailerons, elevators, rudder, flaperons, spoilers, and horizontal stabilizers.
Based on application, in Military Aviation, the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology will be primarily used in search and rescue missions or remote surveillance applications. Intelligent BEL algorithms for flight control are incorporated. Many countries, such as the US, the UK, Russia, South Korea, India, Pakistan, and Australia, are investing in the development of aircraft. Saab offers primary and secondary FCS. It offers these systems for platforms like fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and UAVs (both fixed-wing and rotary wing). The US’ Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has initiated several projects with the aim to develop UAVs that incorporate vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) flight control mechanisms and advanced sensor payloads and software to develop the FCS.
North America dominated the market because of growth in the number of aircraft and the introduction of lightweight jets in this region to aid in the growth of this market. Growing military modernization programs that include increased procurement of advanced fighter jets and unmanned air vehicles is another significant factor for market growth.
