The MPC’s more upbeat appraisal of the short-term growth outlook gave a strong hint the pace of asset purchases will be tapered further at the August meeting. Tapering the pace of purchases would be consistent with the MPC’s aim of hitting its £875bn gilt target at year-end, rather than getting there sooner.
