They are face or neck including face lift eyelid surgery nose surgery and ear correction surgery; breast area covering breast augmentation breast reduction and breast lift; body area including tummy tuck buttock implants liposuction and bariatric surgery; and non-surgical procedures such as Botox and other dermal fillers laser skin resurfacing chemical peels and microdermabrasion. This report examines cosmetic surgery and procedures provided by the private sector while cosmetic procedures provided on the National Health Service (NHS) are excluded from the content of this report.
The cosmetic surgery market in the UK has enjoyed unprecedented growth since 2008 and was unaffected by the global economic downturn. The total number of cosmetic procedures carried out — including surgical and non-surgical procedures — increased year-on-year between 2010 and 2013; however the rate of growth slowed in 2012 and 2013. The sector took a sudden downturn in 2014 with the number of cosmetic procedures falling by 3.6%.
The non-surgical sector is the largest segment within the market for cosmetic surgery and procedures accounting for a substantial 85.3% of the total by volume.
