About Vehicle Grid Integration Technologies

Widespread electrification of the transportation sector has allowed the production of millions of EVs. These EVs have high potential to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and other air pollutants. The process of integrating EVs with the grid to provide ancillary services to the grid is called V2G integration.

A V2G system facilitates the flow of power between a power grid and electric drive vehicles such as battery electric vehicle (BEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), or fuel cell electric vehicle. These V2G systems also provide a network that helps the owner communicate with the power grid. In addition, the V2G technology provides demand response services to the power grid, enhancing the efficiency of the system while operating heavy loads.

Integrating vehicles into the grid requires technologies such as bidirectional chargers and communication and control systems, which enable a two-way flow of power between the vehicle and the grid.
