Leveraging Digital Technologies to Spur Myanmar Economy Ahead
This IDC Government Insights report outlines the opportunities and challenges of implementing a digital economy in Myanmar. It covers different use cases and solutions piloted recently in Myanmar. Each solution mentioned in the report gives details about how the government is preparing for the digital economy. The government has taken many initiatives to build different solutions to support the economic development of the country. The report also covers deep insights regarding the growth of the digital economy in Myanmar. The report includes the journey of Myanmar (both current and future) for the development of digital economy, covering the process of updating and developing digital solutions, how each solution is addressing the core issues faced by the country, how effective each government initiative is to support the digital economy growth, and the future benefits of all executed digital solutions. The strategy of Myanmar is to make use of all available resources for the development of the digital economy to reduce the investment cost. Solutions deployed so far increase the possibilities to develop the digital economy in the country. Data ID card, egovernment system, digital education, and digital transportation and safety are some of the recent solutions deployed by the government to develop the digital economy in Myanmar. The government is leveraging all possible opportunities in the country to build the economy. The report also outlines the future scope of Myanmar with the growing digital economy. Combining technologies such as big data, Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence with the existing digital solutions will help in providing advanced citizen services. On the basis of the initiatives and solutions mentioned in the report, it sets an example for other governments to adopt and implement similar digital solutions."IDC believes that today's universal inadequacy of hirable skill sets for managing emerging technologies meant that such specialized skills will be rarely accessible and will be in high demand in the short to medium run for Myanmar's digital transformation teams. Considering the time and effort it takes to train the next-generation workforce to match such talent shortages, the Myanmar government should also target retooling and upgrading the skill sets of the existing domestic workforce," says Gerald Wang, head of IDC Asia/Pacific Public Sector Insights.
