Japan IT Spending Forecast by Vertical Segment, Company Employee Size, and Company Revenue Forecast, 2022–2026

This IDC study presents the actual IT spending in 2020 and 2021, and the IT spending forecast from 2022 to 2026 by industry segment, company size, and annual turnover in the Japan IT market. The market forecast also analyzes IT spending by dividing the industries into 21 categories, company size and product segments into five categories, and annual turnover into four categories. It also discusses IT spending trends observed in each industry segment. The spread of COVID-19 infection over the past two years has revealed to technology user companies the need to quickly recover from the crisis by moving away from dependence on a single global supplier to a more diverse ecosystem that includes partnerships with countries that maintain national security and local production for domestic consumption and procurement. In an era of radical environmental change, it is expected that increasing resilience and security will become business priorities for companies rather than the pursuit of growth. The use of digital technology in strengthening resilience (the ability and flexibility to recover quickly from difficult situations and responsiveness to change) will lead to the creation of a diverse ecosystem, flexible procurement sources, and strong cooperative relationships during normal times, enabling contingency preparedness. Although the Russia-Ukraine War has not directly affected the Japan IT market at this point, both user companies and IT suppliers are becoming more aware of the urgency to strengthen cybersecurity measures and business continuity planning (BCP), which will accelerate the development of "lift and shift" and data infrastructures to ensure data security and to flexibly exchange data between locations and with business partners. The use of cloud services, including the use of infrastructure as a service (IaaS) as a virtual environment and various as a service after relocation, is expected to expand in scope.IDC Japan IT Spending Senior Market Analyst Chikara Abe told IT suppliers, "Assuming that the unpredictable crises and environmental changes that have repeatedly occurred over the past two years will continue, it is important to offer customers a more flexible ecosystem and services that leverage digital and it is important to help companies strengthen resiliency by sharing, using, managing, and enhancing the value of their data."
