Soft Drink, Juice and Bottled Water Manufacturing in New Zealand
The Soft Drink, Juice and Bottled Water Manufacturing industry produces a range of non-alcoholic beverages for domestic and export markets. The industry is highly concentrated between two major companies: Coca-Cola and Frucor Suntory. There are also many small- and mid-size firms operating in the industry. The industry has grown modestly over the past five years, as demand for healthier beverage options and rising bottled water consumption have encouraged expansion. Demand for these products has helped to curb the effects of reduced demand for high-sugar soft drinks, as rising health consciousness has led many consumers to reduce their sugar consumption. Overall, industry revenue is expected to grow at an annualised 2.5% over the five years through 2022-23, to $1.6 billion. This includes an anticipated rise of 0.5% in the current year.
Industry operators primarily manufacture carbonated soft drinks; cordials; syrups; mineral, spring or purified waters; and fruit drinks. The industry excludes manufacturers that produce 100% pure fruit juice, flavoured milk and companies bottling beverages on a fee or contract basis.
