Automated Software Quality Vendor Profile: Targeting Software Quality Analysis and Measurement with Its Product Porfolio, Coverity Evolves CompanyPublished by: IDC Published: Dec. 2, 2012 - 7 Pages Table of Contents
AbstractThis IDC Vendor Profile is one in a series of IDC documents that examine automated software quality solutions and provide both vendor analysis and customer reference context for technology adoption. This Vendor Profile assesses the ASQ strategy and position of Coverity, a vendor targeting the software quality analysis and measurement (SQAM) arena. Here, we discuss Coverity's Development Testing Platform offering, including the company's most recent release of a new version of its product portfolio at JavaOne (4Q12) specifically targeting effective identification of core quality and security issues and impact analysis of changes introduced during development. Context is key for effective decision making when creating code and also can help to enable prioritization of testing resources by helping developers to focus on areas of greatest risk. A framework analyzer to extend static analysis capabilities to help minimize false positives and identify new defects, along with consistent process support, exemplifies aspects of Coverity's capabilities in this arena, coupled with strong execution that supported high growth for Coverity in 2011 and is in the process of doing so for 2012. We place Coverity within this ASQ product category and relative to user adoption trends for the SQAM market and in the context of an economy that remains volatile and demands efficient access to software quality and deployment. We also include summaries of product adoption by two Coverity customer references: an aerospace company and a semiconductor test equipment company. These companies made use of Coverity's solutions to gain visibility into and to rectify core software problems early on that would otherwise have been much more challenging and expensive to find and repair and potentially crippling from a business perspective if the problems had not been detected. We conclude with essential guidance for those considering the purchase of automated solutions in this area. Get full details about this report >> |
