Abstract

This IDC Presentation, which is part of a client presentation given in March 2006, provides an overview of security opportunities in U.S. SMBs. The use of local area networks and high-speed Internet access in SMBs is examined, followed by a comparison of IT spending priorities in SMBs. The information sources that SMBs use to find out about computer hardware are compared with those used for networking and storage equipment. The existence of LAN-based security and interest in security appliances (which provide both hardware and software in an integrated package) is then discussed, followed by a comparison of hardware and software channel between SMBs in general and those firms that have security appliances.
