Abstract
REPORT OVERVIEW
For the first time, critical information about the emerging biochip and bioMEMS sectors is compiled in one groundbreaking report. The Barnett Group has captured the corporate activities of bioMEMS companies, both large and small.
Biochips scan, process, and interpret biological data very rapidly. The technology is commonly known as "lab on a chip." BioMEMS (biological MicroElectroMechanical Systems) can be defined as MEMS systems and technologies used for biotech applications. Biochips apply microchip and microelectronics technology in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Biochips also bring together life sciences and information technology. These devices assist scientists to identify and compare selected sequences of amino acids and other complex molecules. The generic term biochip has other derivative terms such as protein chip, DNA chip, microarray, and gene chip.
In addition to the main report, The Barnett Group provides two databases free with the purchase of the main report. The databases compile hard-to find-abstracts of the most cutting-edge research bioMEMS research on the planet.
The report is a must read for companies in the biochip/bioMEMS sector, venture capital firms, consultants and corporate researchers that want to have the edge on the competition!
REPORT HIGHLIGHTS
The report:
- Documents leading applications and products.
- Identifies and profiles over 70 companies developing products and conducting research in various aspects of bioMEMS technologies.
- Covers both U.S. and international companies.
- Captures information about the companies' products, applications, strategic alliances, and funding.
- Gives non-technical definitions of related terms such as biochip, microfluidics, and biosensors.
- Contains a brief history of the development of the biochip.
- Includes published biochip market size projections.
- Identifies companies working on biodefense applications.
- Provides two extensive databases of government-funded bioMEMS technical research as separate reports. (Databases include contact information for each research institution and for the funding organizations.)
