Tata Motors Limited (TATAMOTORS) is planning to construct a new vehicle manufacturing plant project in Karnataka, India.
The project involves the construction of a new defense vehicle manufacturing facility with a capacity of 200 vehicles a year on 6.47ha of land.
The project includes the construction of a production unit, warehouses, tools rooms, an administrative building, parking facilities and related infrastructure and the installation of related machinery.
TATA MOTORS acquired land for the project implementation.
In March 2016, the Tata Motors signed a strategic agreement with Bharat Forge Limited (BFL) and General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) for the project implementation.
Under the terms of agreement, TATAMOTORS will handle the design, development and integration of mobility platforms in the vehicle, BFL will contribute with ammunitions and ballistics, GDLS will handle systems assimilation.
In June 2017, Ministry of Defence (MoD) has shortlisted Larsen and Toubro (L&T) and a consortium of TATA Motors and Bharat Forge for the FICV project. Defense Procurement Board (DPB) will give the final nod for FICV selection. One of the prototypes will be selected and then there will be bidding for the final project.
TATAMOTORS is waiting for the decision of DPB over the selection of FICV.
