Sears Canada Inc (SCC) is planning to undertake the Metrotown Property Redevelopment project in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, the US.

The project involves the construction of seven multipurpose facilities towers on 3.60ha site. The project will include the construction of a new flagship Sears store, five mixed-use and high-density residential towers, two office towers on top of podiums containing retail and commercial space, parking facility and other related facilities.

In May 2013, Sears Canada Inc (SCC) submitted has a conceptual master plan for the city of Burnaby for rezoning applications for individual phases of the project. Burnaby council has directed city staff to work with SCC in the preparation of a more detailed plan suitable for presentation to a future public hearing.

On June 7, 2013, SCC submitted planning application to the City of Burnaby. In October 2013, SCC entered into an agreement with Concord Pacific Group of Companies (Concord) to develop the project.

As of April 2015, SCC is in the process of obtaining rezoning planning approvals.

The first phase of the planning process commenced with the adoption of a Council report on May 9, 2016. The report outlined the preliminary vision, principles, and land use framework to be used as a basis for public input. The first phase of the public input process was undertaken between May 28, 2016, and August 31, 2016.

The second phase of the planning process has now commenced with the adoption of the Council Report on November 21, 2016. The report summarises the inputs from the first phase and conveys the Draft Metrotown Downtown Plan which will be used as a basis to receive further public input; and, outlines the next steps in the Plan update process. This second phase of the public input process is scheduled to be undertaken between November 22, 2016, and February 1, 2017.

Scope

The project involves the construction of seven multipurpose facilities towers on a 3.60ha site on the South Side of Kingsway at Nelson Avenue, Next to Metropolis in Burnaby.

The US$778 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of five mixed-use and high-density residential towers

2. Construction of two office towers

3. Construction of retail spaces

4. Construction of commercial spaces

5. Construction of parking spaces

6. Construction of other related facilities
