The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is undertaking the upgrade of highway between Vijayawada and Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh, India.
The project involves the widening of 65km highway into four-lane. It includes the construction of four major and five minor bridges, 107 culverts, three vehicular underpasses, four foot over bridges, a toll plaza, a grade separator, underpasses and provision, pedestrian way and toll infrastructural facilities, and installation of signaling systems.
In October 2011, The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure has given approval for the proposed project.
In November 2011, Madhucon Infrastructure Group has been appointed as build, operate and transfer (BOT) contractor for the project.
In March 2013, 207ha of land in 36 villages were notified for acquisition by NHAI.
In September 2014, NHAI issued termination notice to Madhucon Infrastructure, as the company could not get the financial close. NHAI invited fresh bids on engineering procurement and construction (EPC) mode.
In July 2015, the project received funding of US$12.6 million from the Central government for the development of the project.
In January 2016, Dilip Buildcon Limited was appointed as construction contractor.
As of February 2017, Uprooting of trees were completed.
Construction activities are underway.
