The Ministry of Transport (MoT), Vietnam and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MoPWT), Laos, plans to build an expressway from Vientiane in Laos to Hanoi in Vietnam.
The project involves the construction of a 707km, six-lane expressway between Vientiane and Hanoi. It will be developed in phases.
In the first phase of the project, four lanes will be built, while the entire six lanes are expected to be completed between 2020 and 2025.
The project includes the construction of service roads, bypasses, bridges, tunnels, flyovers and the installation of electronic toll points, CCTV cameras, signaling and safety systems.
Transport Engineering Design Inc (Tedi) has been appointed as the study consultant for the project.
In September 2015, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on transport cooperation signed between the governments of Vietnam and Laos.
On March 7, 2017, MoT and MoPWT signed an agreement to seek investment and support, firstly to carry out a feasibility study for the expressway.
Study activities are underway. Construction is expected to complete by 2025.
