Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (DWASA) is planning to undertake the construction of a sewage treatment plant in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The project involves the construction of a sewage treatment plant with a processing capacity of 500,000m3 per day on 24ha of land. It includes the construction of filtration units, sedimentation tanks, control rooms, a lift pumping station and related facilities, the installation of pumps, and the laying of pipelines.
The project is being funded by the Export-Import Bank of China.
On November 23, 2014, DWASA entered into an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with HydroChina International Engineering Co. Ltd (HydroChina), a subsidiary of Hydrochina Corporation, for the construction of the plant.
Under the terms, HydroChina will operate and maintain the plant for a period of one year following the completion of the project.
In August 2015, the project secured approvals from government. Cabinet committee on economic affairs approved the project to appoint HydroChina has construction contractor and HydroChina has signed an agreement with DWASA to finance the project.
As of October 2016, Export-Import Bank of China will provide financial assistance of US$273.4 million of the total project value. Remaining US$140.6 million will be accommodated from the national exchequer and US$1.25million from the DWASA's own fund.
Shah Technical Consultant has been appointed as lead consultant for the project.
Construction works are underway and are scheduled to be completed by December 2019.
