AlpTransit Gotthard Ltd (ATGL) is undertaking the construction of the Ceneri Base Tunnel in Bellinzona, Ticino in Switzerland.
The project involves the construction of a 30.75km long tunnel with single-track. It also includes the construction of East tube with 15.452km, West tube with 15.306km, 48 cross passages, subways, underpasses, barriers, roads and the installation of lights and the laying of tracks.
The design stage was completed in 2007. Construction contract was awarded to Consorzio Condotte Cossi consortium with Frutiger SA, Società Italiana per Condotte d'Acqua S.p.A. cablex AG, PORR Suisse AG and Cossi SA.
Holcim Ltd has been appointed as the raw material supply contractor.
The construction work was commenced in the third quarter of 2009.
Construction works are underway and are scheduled for completion by 2020.
