Advanced phase change materials (APCMs) refer to materials or products that are capable of storing energy absorbed or released by thermodynamic systems or materials at a constant-temperature process. In other words, APCMs are materials that are capable of storing latent heat during the process of phase transition. The latent heat transition associated to APCMs can be achieved changing the phases such as solid to liquid, solid to solid, liquid to gas, and solid to gas. However, at a commercial level, only solid to liquid change in the phase is used in APCMs. APCMS are used in an array of applications that demand thermal control or management. Some of the major applications of APCMs are building and construction, automotive, and packaging.
