This IDC study provides historical market share data (2018–2019) for the worldwide scale-out NAS and pure-play object storage provider in the enterprise storage systems market. The historical data illustrates top server vendor shares overall. IDC reported these vendor shares in terms of vendor revenue. The year was filled with several investments in software-defined storage offerings of solutions traditionally offered as appliances, introduction of all-flash object storage appliances for performant workloads and deeper partnerships with public cloud providers. Several providers in this market segment have extended their solutions to support artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and deep learning (DL) type workloads with preconfigured solutions that include accelerator technology from NVIDIA. Overall, the year is indicative of the concept that OEM storage providers will continue to harness their on-premises customer base while allowing them to easily extend their on-premises footprint into the public cloud. "Unstructured data created and retained by users is creating a need for file and object storage solutions across various workloads and industries," said Amita Potnis, research director, Content Infrastructure at IDC. "Recent developments in this segment include all-flash object storage offerings being introduced by vendors and adopted by customers alike as well as traditional file storage providers developing deep partnerships with public cloud providers."
