Worldwide Fault-Tolerant Servers Market Shares, 2014: Vendors Are Hearing the Customer — More Bold Moves Needed to Grow the Segment

This IDC study discusses how more and more workloads are becoming mission critical with planned and unplanned downtime no longer being tolerable, given the impact on productivity, revenue, customer satisfaction, reputation, and regulatory compliance. The AL4 market segment contracted somewhat, but new product announcements in late 2014 demonstrated that vendors were listening to customers and that 2014 may have been a brief dip."Even with the promising recent product announcements, there's still an opportunity to expand the market for fault-tolerant servers with innovative products that deliver on today's widespread customer needs (mobile, cloud, next-gen apps development, and Internet of Things) in a transparently priced, fault-tolerant package for the rapidly expanding always-on world," said Peter Rutten, research manager, Server Solutions within IDC's Enterprise Platform Group. "Vendors are clearly listening to the marketplace, but to grow the segment, bold moves are necessary."
