Worldwide Edge Enterprise Infrastructure Forecast, 2025–2028
Description
This IDC study presents the worldwide edge enterprise infrastructure forecast for 2025–2028. Shipment and revenue data is provided by major region and by provider type (e.g., service provider, managed services provider, and nonservice providers). Edge IT is the deployment of IT resources at peripheral or edge locations relative to where an organization's central or core IT is located. The term edge encompasses a broad range of locations, from very remote field deployments to colocation datacenters or telco POPs in metropolitan areas. This document forecasts heavy edge deployments of server systems, storage systems, and HCI appliances. "Light edge" deployments, such as purpose-built appliances, are not included in this forecast."As edge use cases mature, more IT buyers are choosing cloud service providers for edge projects. The ability to streamline deployments and reduce capital expenditures is motivating more adoption of service provider edge platforms." — Jennifer Cooke, senior research director, Edge Trends and Strategies at IDC
